Match Report | You Can Do Sport 1-1 Draper Norton Football Academy.
A very clear Wednesday afternoon saw our girls’ team face Draper Norton in a very competitive match.
A slow first half saw Draper Norton dominating the game, putting on a show of skill and determination. With the first 20 minutes being goalless, both teams fighting for control, but it was the visitors who managed to break the deadlock, taking the lead with a scrappy goal, fumbled in the net by a rebound off YCDS keeper, Macey Warburton.
However, the home team showed their resilience and fought back, 10 minutes later levelling the score with a well-crafted goal through a cross from right winger Lexie Dixon, who received a well-aimed pass from YCDS midfielder Alana Priestley. Miley Allen, YCDS striker was at the end of Lexies’ cross with a cracking header into the top left corner. Draper Norton put our goalkeeper under some very difficult pressure towards the end of the first half, but thanks to the girls’ outstanding back four, Darcy Brain, Evie Richardson, Ruby Donohoe, and Skye Bennett, they could not get past.
In the second half, both teams continued to showcase their prowess, resulting in an extremely balanced and intense battle on the field. Iaysha Langford fighting extremely hard to gain control of the game down the right wing alongside Isla Smith playing in an unfamiliar position down the left wing battling hard for possession. With the scoreline deadlocked at 1-1, every move became crucial as both sides pushed for a breakthrough. Poppy Humberstone and Ava Marsh exhibiting exceptional skill and determination, creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities through the middle but were equally matched by the opposing defence. The midfield became a battle ground, with each team fighting for possession and control of the game. As the clock ticked down, the tension soared, and despite the best efforts of the YCDS girls’, the ref blew the final whistle with the scoreline remaining at a well-deserved 1-1 draw.
