The YMCA Newark campus is the operational base of the You Can Do Sport Academy. It is where every programme, qualification and development pathway connects. The campus was chosen because it gives young people a controlled, professional environment that blends education and practical sport without the usual gaps and distractions found in traditional FE or school-based settings.

How the Campus Supports the Academy

The academy uses dedicated classrooms for BTEC and academic delivery, full indoor training halls, outdoor spaces for football and multi-sport development, breakout zones for workshops and tutorials, and targeted training spaces used for boxing, conditioning and applied sport sessions. Everything sits within one site, removing wasted travel time and keeping students focused throughout the day.

Students transition directly from education sessions into coaching blocks, recovery periods or practical assessments. Staff work across the same footprint, which creates constant communication between tutors and coaches. This structure allows student performance to be monitored in real time, not just during end-of-term reviews.

Why This Environment Matters

The campus is designed for consistency. Young people achieve more when routines are strong, expectations are clear and support is available without delay. Being based inside the YMCA means safeguarding, pastoral support, enrichment opportunities and community links are all built into the same ecosystem.

The campus also gives students access to environments normally reserved for professional settings. This includes structured coaching areas, a performance-focused indoor hall, and an education wing that mirrors modern training and academic facilities used across sport institutes.

Outcome and Impact

This setup has helped the academy deliver higher UCAS outcomes, stronger attendance, better engagement and a smoother route into employment. Students operate within a space that feels purposeful and secure, which increases confidence and supports genuine progression.
